This introduction to Guangxu and republic porcelain is filled with the hands on observations of Mr. Allen. One of my favorite features is all the images of porcelains side by side with their copies. If you love foot rims and their features, this is a book which puts great emphasis.
This book has also made waves for Mr. Allen’s unvarnished opinions about current misinformation and the trade in general. All in all an excellent book and one that could only be written by a one is who is neither a dealer or museum professional.

Chinese Porcelain of the Republic Period is hands down one of the best books on masterworks of the early 20th century. The items are superbly photographed, each item is cataloged with a translation of the inscription, mark and images. The introduction in both Mandarin in English offers an excellent view of the the incredible artists working at this time. There is also an interesting discussion of marks on porcelain. The books large format and high quality of printing set it apart, for once you can see not only the general style of painting but also the way the underglaze blue and overglaze enamels fire and bleed into the porcelain body.
